SRHS Update: Week of May 28

Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Sanborn Regional High School. We are now in the home-stretch for the 2011-2012 school year. Here are your important announcements for the week:
1. Did you know we now have our very own PTO? Please consider joining. The membership form is attached.
 2. I have attached an important letter regarding graduation expectations that was mailed home to all parents of graduating seniors on May 10.

3. It was brought to my attention that a letter sent home to Seniors earlier this month listed the Senior Sports Banquet at DiBurro's as occurring on Tuesday June 5. It is actually occurring on Wednesday June 6. Please adjust your calendars, and sorry for the confusion!

4. Announcing Sanborn Regional High School’s Annual Community Day Of Caring For Residents of Kingston, Newton and Fremont on Wed June 6, 2012 from9 AM to 1:00 PM

Sanborn Regional High School’s Class of 2012 is going to continue the Sanborn tradition of giving back to the community during our annual Community Day of Caring.  The Community Day of Caring is one of the many things which make Sanborn such a special place.  Our seniors would like to express their gratitude to our 3 communities by volunteering in the Community.
We invite anyone from Fremont, Newton, or Kingston to give us a call the high school if they have any jobs big or small that can be attended to by students of the senior class. There are more than 180 students in the senior class, and it would be ideal to put them all to work, so don’t be afraid to give us a call!
Some students will be working with Ms. Achilich’s Environmental Science class by planting and landscaping at the Valley Lane Town Forest in Kingston.  But we have plenty of other talented and responsible students.
If you need some furniture moved, spring cleaning, yards raked, computers, TVs or phones programmed, porches and basements cleaned, or other tasks; please call the High School at 642-3341, extension 100 and leave a message for Mr. Kelly about the Day of Caring or email him at jkelly@sau17.org.  You will be amazed at how much our students can accomplish in a short time. And you will be able to meet some of Sanborn’s finest representatives.

5. Calling all gardeners! The Sanborn Regional High School Student Council is planning a plant sale on Saturday June 2nd, 2012. All proceeds from this event will be donated to ‘Heidi’s Heroes’ which benefits the Boston Jimmy Fund. We need the assistance and support of Sanborn community so please keep us in mind as you separate your perennials this spring! If you are willing to donate any perennials, drop off times at the Sanborn Regional High School gymnasium are on Friday, June 1st from 3-6 pm & Saturday June 2nd, from 7-9 am. The sale will run from 9-12 in the gymnasium. Leftover plants will be donated for use by other charitable causes unless you return to pick up by 1 pm on June 2nd. As a final request please label containers with the plant name, height, flower color (if applicable), and whether it prefers sun or shade. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Ruby Chaffee at rubychaffee@yahoo.com, Emily Mallioux at emmailloux@gmail.com, or Holly Price at hprice@sau17.org. The Student Council would like to thank the Sanborn Community in advance for their support in our efforts to help support the Boston Jimmy Fund.
Thanks, The Sanborn Regional High School Student Council Ruby Chaffee and Emily Mallioux Co-Chairs.
6. On Tuesday, May 29 (TONIGHT), we will hold our senior awards night at 6:00pm in the auditorium. Underclassmen awards will be presented at an awards ceremony on June 5 at 1:00pm.

7. If you have an adventurous child with a passion for community service and understanding world cultures, they should consider joining the Outing Club on their April 2013 trip to Ecuador!  We already have 8 students signed up, but would like at least 4 more!  There is still time to sign up!  Please visit the World Challenge website for more information and have your child see Ms. Ladd or Mrs. Achilich.  http://www.world-challenge-expeditions.com/  The trip includes a visit to the capital of Quito, with the rest of the trip spent in the Rainforest, where we will complete a multi-day community service project and take multiple hiking excursions, go whitewater rafting, cook and eat with local people, and visit the world renowned markets.  It will be the trip of a lifetime!   Contact Ms. Ladd at kladd@sau17.org or Mrs. Achilich at kachilich@sau17.org for more information.

8. It is never too early to think about summer school. This year SRHS will be holding our own program for the first time ever. This will be the "preferred" option for students who need to recover credits or competencies from courses from this past school year. Please review the attached handout for more information.

9. SRHS is also proud to announce that it will hold a summer drama enrichment program. I have attached a brochure with more details on this exciting opportunity.

10. The Sanborn Regional High School Golf Team is hosting a golf tournament on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Apple Hill Golf Course at 69 East Road in East Kingston, NH 03827. The cost is $90.00 per Golfer which includes 18 Holes of Golf with cart, Italian Feast, gift bag with various local coupons and surprises, prizes for 1st and 2nd place teams, prizes for longest accurate drive, prizes for closest to the pin, and "on the green” 50/50. A sign-up sheet and hole sponsorship form can be found in the Athletic office at the High School or by emailing the fund-raising committee at cpasto921@aol.com or japalladi@yahoo.com. If you have any questions please contact: Christine Pasto (978)-994-1134, Chris Palladino at (603)479-0659, or Julie Palladino at (603)-247-3254.

11. Earlier this year our school community engaged in a culture survey to collect information on what we can do to improve our school culture and climate. Since that time, several teachers, students, parents, community members, and administrators have had the opportunity to analyze this data. A steering committee with representation from each of these stakeholder groups has summarized this data analysis into an executive summary. The full report with the data is attached to this email. This report will also be placed on our school's website. Please let me know if you have any questions.

12. The Sanborn Music Boosters plans to sell water and Flowers for Graduation – Flowers will be sold at a cost of $ 3.00 per spray including water tube to keep them fresh! Congratulations to the Class of 2012!
